The "DART", as it was originally known, was introduced in 1959 but was soon renamed the SP 250 because the name Dart had already been registered by the Chrysler corporation for Dodge in the United States, where Daimler were hoping to gain significant sales.
Interesting technical features for a car of the late 50s are the four wheel disc brakes and the all fibre glass body.
The engine was a 2.5 litre V8 designed by renowned car and motorcycle engineer Edward Turner and was subsequently used by Jaguar in their Mk II when they rebadged it the Daimler 250 after buying out Daimler in 1960.
During the five year production run the SP250 underwent two further specification changes with refinements to both chassis and trim, these are now known as the "B" and "C" spec' cars.
A total of only 2,648 SP250s had been made when the model was dropped in 1964.
The Joblings car was first registered in Agust 1961 and they purchased it in November 2004 in Surrey, England from someone who had owned it since September 1982.
